In general, life is pretty darned good, but as the readers of the Sisson family web site know, it hasn't been so hot as of late.
I am happy to report that things went EXCELLENTLY at the vets yesterday with a very brave pooch (and momma too!) and things are looking up in the world of Shadow and health today. Shadow will be in a soft cast for 6 weeks while a split in the head of this tibula heals - and then will need to go through another 6 weeks of physio to get back up to peak performance. BUT, this is a thousand times better than the original prognosis of 4-6 MONTHS of rest and rehab for a 3rd degree sprain. The new vet did agree with the findings of hip displasia, but was a bit more optimistic about it (with a degree of moderate instead of severe) and was happy to not deal with it (other than with medications to slow the arthritis) until Shadow shows discomfort due to it. (for all the info on our appointment, check out my facebook page)

Joshua is being a super star this week with sleeping too. Mark began a sleep technique with his early this week that's called "wake to sleep" from the baby whisperer book in order to get him back on track with this sill early morning wake ups. This technique consists of one of us (Mark volunteered in this case) going in to his room to gently wake him (but not completely) an hour before he has been waking up on a regular basis. The idea behind it is you can "reset" their clocks by starting a new sleep cycle before they think they are starting their last one of the night. So, our alarm has been going off at 3:30 (gasp!) so that Mark can go into Joshua's room, tickle his neck until he begins to stir, and then quietly slip back out of his room. He has done this for 3 days now.. and SURPRISE, we have had a boy who sleeps until 6:15 each morning (and wakes up SO much more refreshed!). The book suggests to do this for 3 days, stop for one night, and see if his clock has '"reset" - if it has not, we will do another few days just to make sure it sticks... but even now - getting up for a minute or two certainly beats starting your day off at 4:30 am!
Have a good night all,
J
